Visual Alchemy

This session explores the enduring power of image-making—to conjure mythic meaning, evoke mystery and reveal entangled stories. Through their diverse practices, Maja, Ingrid and Nishant invite us to rethink the role of the image as more than illustration. It becomes alchemical: weaving past and present memory, material and metaphor, human and more‑than‑human worlds. They share methods, moments and encounters that reveal how visual storytelling can open such portals.

Maja Daniels is a Swedish photographer and artist whose work explores how history and memory inform our present perception. Through multi-layered visual practices—photography, sound, archive and moving image—she creates haunting “visual languages” rooted in folklore and landscape.

Ingrid Weyland is an Argentine-born visual artist and photographer whose evocative works blend digital manipulation, crumpled prints and surreal landscapes. Through her series Topographies of Fragility, she offers a visceral commentary on environmental fragility and humanity’s impact on pristine places.

Nishant Shukla is a London-based photographer, filmmaker and curator. Founder of Lake, a collaborative platform fusing photography, sound and installation, his work combines personal narrative, cosmology and collective memory—from portraiture to immersive photobooks and spatialised storytelling.
